My Favorite Piece of Equipment

Today I want to talk about one of my favorite pieces of cooking equipment. One that you've seen portions of in photos for months now. One that I use multiple times every week and that never lets me down. This is my Weber Performer Deluxe, the souped up charcoal grill...

Cody Bryan Band + Twisted X Brewing Co.

I'm not sure if I was just worn out from the 4th of July or what, but I did not feel like myself for most of the day on the 5th. It took a rough workout and about a gallon of water to get me back to normal, but once I was there it felt like time for a new post. So I...

Don’t Mess with Texas

Don’t Mess with Texas

This weekend a bunch a bunch of friends and I headed up to the Canyon Lake area and floated the Guadalupe. We had a lot of fun and got to enjoy a nice hot day. The river was pretty crowded, as you'd expect on a Saturday afternoon in late June, but it wasn't...

Music to make it to the weekend

Music to make it to the weekend

Friday always seems like the longest day of the week. Even though it's the one most looked forward to. I put together a playlist to help my day go by a little quicker and figured I'd share. This bitty is called "Friday Furlong" because it's the last little stretch...

Cowboy Mentality

Cowboy Mentality

Sometimes You don’t Need a Reason

I've been asked things like "why write Westbound Soul". Especially at the beginning, when the site was more like an abandoned gas station crumbling beside some old West Texas highway than a bustling diner full of content and visitors. At times those questions have...

Matt & the Herdsmen – 5 reasons to Listen

This is a little different than my usual review since there's no alcohol involved. My wife and I stumbled upon this group by accident when we got to the Dalton Domino show at Conway's a little early. They were the opening act that we tried not to pay much attention...

Sunday Funday – Brisket on a Weber

Sunday Funday – Brisket on a Weber

You read that correctly. I smoked a brisket on a standard sized Weber kettle grill yesterday and it turned out awesome. Don't get me wrong it was a lot of work for a scorching hot first Sunday in June, but it was worth it. Read on to find out how to apply this method...

Sevens Out BBQ – Great folks, great food.

Sevens Out BBQ – Great folks, great food.

It's been about a week away from posting, which has bothered me, but it was a busy week between the holiday weekend and a buddy's bachelor party. Although I wasn't writing during that time, I did do a few things that were Westbound Soul worthy like finally getting to...
