One Old School Blade – The Holliday

by | Jul 10, 2021 | Gear

When I first unboxed this knife, I wasn’t too keen on what I was seeing. My preference for EDC style knives is a bit more modern and definitely more tactical looking. But I know Finch Knife Co puts out a solid product, so I tried to keep an open mind. So when I opened The Holliday up for the first time, I got a real old school surprise.

A Straight Edged Wonder

The Holliday features a 3.125″ straight edge blade. It’s not a tanto, drop point, spear, or any of the other types that knife enthusiasts are used to. It’s flat, straight, and deadly sharp. While the dull side makes a sweeping, almost hook-like, shape as it comes to a point. If you’re familiar with kitchen cutlery, think small-scale santoku.

At first I thought this old school blade would be a negative when it comes to EDC usage. Boy was I wrong. The extra fine point makes up for its lack of a curved blade, while the santoku style makes it super easy to sharpen. Especially on my Work Sharp Knife and Tool Sharpener.

Old School Style

This knife’s handle design is just as much of a conversation starter as the blade. If you are looking for something a little bit different, a little old school, or even dressier, for your next EDC blade, give The Holliday a look. The smooth action, classic looking handle, and unusual blade are sure to blow your mind.
