When the rest of the Sportsman’s Junction crew told me they wanted to partner with SKRE Gear, I was mostly indifferent. Camo is pretty much just camo to me, so I didn’t really care. But after putting some of their stuff through the ringer in Colorado, I’ve got to say, I’m pretty impressed.
During elk 2nd rifle season we faced temperatures ranging from the high-teens to the mid-50s. Some days the weather was clear and some it dealt snow. No matter what weather situation we faced. No matter how far we hiked. And no matter how thick the timber, my hardscrabble pants and jacket were more than up to the test.
Here’s a few reasons why I’m impressed with skre gear –
- Durability – I wore these as my outer layer for 5 days and didn’t get a single snag or tear. We pushed through thick brush, navigated fallen timber, and climbed mountainsides but these still look like new.
- Odor – Again, I wore these outer layers for 5 days. At no point along the way did it begin to take on traces of odor that my (overly sensitive) nose could notice.
- Stealth – Both pieces are surprisingly quiet when walking or crawling.
- Washer Friendly – This stuff, especially the pants, got COVERED in blood. No special treatment required to remove, just a regular cold wash based on tag recommendations.
I’m sure the other popular brands can probably make the same claims, but SKRE is the only one I have first hand experience with. So if you’re headed out for a backcountry hunt and need a new outer layer, give the hardscrabble jacket and pants a try. You won’t be disappointed.
