I recently took a morning trip to Galveston Bay to wade fish for speckled trout. It was an hour’s drive from my driveway to my friend’s bay house where their center console boat awaited my arrival. Taking off from the slip just after six o’clock, we were at our fishing location in fifteen minutes. The wind was steady from the west, the current was weak, and the mullet were thick. When I say thick, I mean there were thousands of them, maybe hundreds of thousands.
A Bad Day on the Water is better…
The trout were scattered throughout the area feeding on the mullet hanging on the outskirts of big pods. As a group, we caught twelve fish, including a couple of small redfish. In my opinion, there are two things that could have made for a better day…less mullet and/or a stronger incoming current. It is hard to compete when there is so much baitfish, and an incoming current would have brought more fish into our vicinity. Overall, it was a great trip with good friends. Below is a video of the trip!
